What does footprints above a Sims head mean?

It is because the way there is blocked, either the path or the machine is facing the wrong way.

It indicates your Sims next action or task example you click on use toilet it appears in box as next action for sim to complete. Your can delete action by pressing B to void action. Try clicking on the coffee maker.if playing on pc to void action used mouse over action push delete

That means you need to replace the cursor over the task you want because it wasn't read when you clicked so place over coffee machine then click

When I try to make my sim make an espresso the blue footprints appear and it's so annoying

When footprints appear it means the sim cannot get to the machine or gadget

You ask your sim to make a coffee
They shame their head and footprints appear above it's head
