Make sure nothing is in the way of your Sims, nothing to block it's path. This may involve having to move furniture around to make a path for your sims to get out. If the footprints show, it means you cannot walk past the area you want to be at.

My sims needs to drink a double shot of coffee an I Tap the coffee pot the feet pop up on sims head but nothing in way of coffe potIf you are still looking for help with this game we have more questions and answers for you to check.
