Question for The Sims FreePlay
I bought a toy in the children's store in the pre-teen section, and placed it on a table. But everytime I try to get my pre-teen to play it, nothing happens. I tried rotating it but that didn't work either. I'm not sure what the toy is exactly, but it's right before the pink make-up kit and it's grey. It is 1 LP. I'm also on level 17 if this helps.

It sounds more like a decoration then a toy. Some of the things in the Children's store are not Toys but just decorations, to decorate your Sims room with. This is probably one of them, meaning your preteen can not play with it.

I'm also level 17 and the same thing happened to my preteen Sim, but with the 800 simoleon spaceship next to the grey/purple ray-gun thingy you bought. Really disappointing that the kid can't interact with it! I guess we should have known since there was no tiny Play, Social, or other stat icon by it like there are by other Items they CAN interact with...
As another poster here said, I really wish they'd put descriptions we could see. The Items have them; we just usually can't see 'em...
