Do you pay the nanny
Guest answered:

You have to have one person with baby and they can't go to work. So it doesn't matter but I stay like their parents or friend or best friend.

You can just leave it at home alone.or create a house for the toddlers and preteens to go to and use as a babysitting service

That's sounds like a good thing to try out
Guest answered:

Though the game will let you leave babies and toddlers alone, I never do. That's the way I play. But what I do is have one house be a daycare center, with all the fun sandboxes and Toys. The mayor, who owns the house, "hires" another sim to watch the kids. She works in the garden as she watches the kids, so she makes more money and keeps busy. The toddlers never get into trouble anyway. Then the daycare baby-sitter goes to her regular Job once the mayor or her partner gets home. There is no set time for the Sims to go to work so they can have alternating schedules. They can go any time of day. Also, if they don't go to work at all, they don't get paid, but they don't get fired. There are no lost points. I had one sim be the "hired cook" who went from house to house Cooking batches of meals for all the sims and cleaning up the plates. She got cooking points fast that way and became a Movie Star at night, then opened the Restaurant.

You can just put the baby on hibernate and for one day you can leave her/him but seems a bit irredponsible
