World 5-7: how to get the ninja star with you to the exit? As soon as I go through the red hole, it disappears

If you are trying to achieve a goal there is no need to have the star stay up to the exit. You just have to get one stuck in the cheese during the play of that level. You probably all ready figured that out by now.
