I've reached the max level of 41 in the magical meadow and now the game is sort of boring. When will there be an update? Have others found this a disappointing problem too?

Mine only goes to 41 as well, however I have been at 40 for a year. Haven't even started showing progress on the star collector.
Yes 41 is the max level for the game at this point you can only tweak your village and expand which also has a limit. You cn accumulate coins acorns and stuff also quests continue though xp points don’t level up. Trader smurf still stops by for supplies so you cn work on fillin his list. My cinema stopped showing videos and tracker smurf says a level up is needed to continue his quests. In other words you cn enjoy the simple smurf life sit back and enjoy your creation or you cn delete and start all over 😊
