You can tame a wolf with bones, and an ocelot with fish. Other then that, you can get cows and sheep to follow you I'd you have west in your hand. Carrots for pigs, and seeds for chickens. But once the item is out of your hand, the animal won't follow you. It will also stop if you get too far away.
