Just start by breaking wood, going into your inventory, then go to the Crafting section. Next, you want to press the wood planks, and tap on them depending on how much wood you got. Turn the wood planks into sticks, by doing the same thing by going into the crafting section, pressing the sticks, and only tap the sticks once for now. Make a crafting table (1!) and place it anywhere. Finally, you can tap the wooden pickaxe, and do the same thing until you find stone, brwak that, do what I told you, make a stone pickaxe and continue until you get to coal, melt iron in a furnace (requires 8 pieces of cobblestone) and get an iron ingot, which you can get three to make an iron pickaxe. Keep on digging a downward staircase until you find diamonds, but ignore gold, gold is useless in this game. If you have any questions, just look it up on the internet.
