How do I make a regular pickaxe to cut stone and become cobblestone?!

You can make a wooden pickaxe on the Crafting table, with wooden planks and wooden sticks, to turn some stone into cobblestone. However this pickaxe won't last long, so once you have mined as much stone as possible with it, use the cobblestone you have collected to craft a stone pickaxe.
