Question for Minecraft: Pocket Edition

So I am trying to make a portal. And I have 3 nether reactor cores. My friend told me that obsidian comes from them. How do you get the obsidian? Or how do you get obsidian to make the nether?

You need a certain pattern. The patter goes:
• Bottom layer- cobblestone in a + shape, 2 verticle and 2 horizontal. Then between the gaps, gold blocks(9 gold pieces)
• Second layer- cobblestone in a 'x' shape but the middle on a nether reactor core
• Top layer- another + shape but with nothing in the gaps.

Then all you need to do is tap it, there will be a big room made out of ground rock and Animals ranging from, zombie pigmen to moshrooms- a type of cow.
