First, you need a plow, it's in tools section at craft table. (stone is cheapest) and start maddly clicking dirt squares with grass on them. It will plow the land. Some of them will give you seeds. You can plant seeds on plowed servases of dirt only.

U can also harvest the wheat to make bread and it gives you 2.5 hearts
