One way to use any character is by doing survival. After one goal pause and go to title. Following that go back to survival and pick the same character. It should then ask if you would like to restart your progress. Before clicking anything notice how you may still tap the arrows to select the character. Use those to see who you want to use based on their flag and skill. Then when you have decided go ahead and tap no and when you restart you are using that character you have not unlocked. Note you do not unlock the charActer afterwards
