to catch a fish on "hayday" you first have to unlock the Mine and make a wood stick and a metal hook, you the tap the sewing machine and tap the stick and hook and they sew together. Then select the fishing line and tap the fish and a rich is caught...

You need to unlock the little row boat. Once inside the fishing area, you can make Lures with tickets (Blue, green, orange, etc...) Or ones for free.
Unlocking new fishing spots is just like opening land on the farm.
