How do I get rid of my friends? And if so I want to add more friends how can I do this, thank you for you information.

Well I thought the same thing and I realised if you go onto their farm then there is an unhappy face and you can click it and you will no longer be friends.

Ok, here's the actual way to delete a friend or anyone. 1 tap on the friend icon on lower right. 2 tap on brown book, you'll see the other tabs, pick the one that has the person you want taken off, then tap "hide". Boom, they're gone.
In game friends you can remove or block.
Other friends, tap "hide".
Followers, tap "unfollow".
Took me awhile, but I finally figured this out.
