You do not have to use Facebook, or add people on Facebook to become friends with them or help their farm. You can grow your friends list by using Game Center. You can see which of your friends need help by checking the "!" tab at the bottom of your screen in the game. Or you can find random people who need help in the newspaper, their avatars will show the same "!" on their newspaper ad. Check your followers list too. You'll only know which of your followers need help by checking the followers tab in the game. Their avatars will also show a "!".
