It's easier to just shoot the asteroids until a core
Appears and then tractor it in.

VALKERIE VOID ESSENCE MISSION

In the extra mission pack valkerie (excuse my spelling) there will be a mission where you will have to collect void essence. If you are like me and have found that the voids have 7 guards defending the asteroids then you will find it very difficult to mine the essence. Make sure your ship has a good booster/weapons/armour and fly straight up the moment you are engaged. (if you have marked an enemy this will be easier) Wait until you are about 20 km away from the enemy they should stop following you. They will circle around the asteroids pick your moment to decend and destroy as many of the asteroids as possible (if you have the AB-4 Octopus it will be A LOT EASIER)If you destroy an asteroid with essence in it and you recieve the essence via the tractor beam....DO NOT BE GREEDY THE MOMENT YOU GET IT JUMP OUT OF THE SYSTEM!!!!

Or you could do it the hard way:

Equip your ship with the three special items which you'll need blueprints to build:

Ninja Cloak
Gunant's drill
Automatic turret

You'll also need a scanner which analyzes which asteroids are grade A.

Put these on the Terran Veteran ship.

Hire three wingmen.

Jump to the void system, and find a grade A asteroid. Lock onto it when you are a couple of km away. Cloak when you are between 800 and 900 m away and turn OFF the turret. This is very important, otherwise the void will shoot at the asteroid and destroy it. Drill, baby, drill. With gunant's drill and it's 100% handling, this is not hard at all. The cloak lasts just long enough to drill to the core. Then, jump out of the void system. You might have a wingman left!

Also when using gunants drill not every A class has a core

ElvixLyte answered:

Just shoot the astroids down until a core appears.
If you need a high volume of void ore, or are farming for credits - try this:

Nin Co Shadow Ninja
Automatic turrents
High armor/shield
Repair bot

Expansion help:
Automatic mine turrents (place 3 around the astroid)
Leech beam
SIS Phoenix

Destroy all void fighters as fast as possible
- Combat as close to rocks as possible
Start mining immediately after fighters are dead. 3-7 will spawn about 1/3rd of the way through mining. Your turrents will keep them occupied for the 2/3rd part of mining. After your automatic's have been destroyed, your shield and armor must be good enough to withstand 3-7 voids attacking for the last bit.

If you don't have a good ship, use the nin co shadow ninja. Gets you through 2/3rds of mining process without injury.

If your not on hardcore, just disband the mining process when you get attacked, since there is no 50% reduction in ore granted for disbanding.
