You can actually earn more gold and experience points losing on the amateur circuit than by winning on Arcade mode. This is because the amateur circuit pays out more for losing than Arcade mode does for winning. Even if you do not win a trophy when you play the amateur round tournament you will still a lot of gold for competing which can then be used on recovery treatments.
