One of the most useful functions in the game is the 'Undo' button which allows you to go back to previous moves when you have made a mistake.
To get hints you have to purchase them or alternately rate the game when prompted to get free hints.
It is still possible to fit paper pieces even if you are not completely precise, all that is required for it to register is that most of the space is filled with paper.
