Free crystals can be earned by watching a never-ending stream of videos for other mobile games. You get one Crystal per video. To do this go to the in-app purchase page and click 'Get Free Crystals' on the bottom left corner of the screen.
You can earn free Gold by interacting with neighbors monsters. To do this open the 'Neighbors' tab and click 'Visit Random', then select the monster and pet the creature by rubbing the screen. This can be done at each new ranch you visit.
