Although it is possible to get through most of the game without them there is an option to buy power-ups. These include for example a small pack of ice picks which are capable of eliminating single pieces on the board. Power-ups vary from $0.99 to $2.99.

When you reach the later levels of the game when things start getting difficult you will only have five hearts (turns) to play with. If you want more you can either pay $0.99 to fill them back up or wait a period of time for them to refill.

A good strategy is to try and save and combine as many power-ups as possible for the Free Fall finish as this is where you can score the most points.

A special Free Fall will occur when you have unused special pieces on the board at the end of the round. This will add to your overal score and can be devestating when you build pieces together to combine power-ups. For example, the row/column eliminator teamed up with the freezing power-up is able to take out three whole rows or columns instead of just one.

When you reach a certain score (usually around 60,000) you will earn the first star in the game. You then continue building combos or moving key pieces to the bottom of the board to add extra points and earn a second and eventually a third star in the process.

Each of the characters has a different power-up, Anna has a torch that can burn eight interconnecting pieces together and her sister Emma provides snowflakes which have the same effect as the general snowflake pieces. These power-ups can only be used a couple of times but there is an option to purchase them through an in-game app if you want to use them more often.

This will occur when you match up five pieces in a T-like shape or something similar. When activated it will spin around and eliminate like-colored pieces on the board and make others drop down in their place.

These pieces become activated when you line up five icons in a row. When these have been matched up you will freeze all the puzzle pieces within a nine-block grid and smash them to pieces enabling others to drop in.

These pieces are activated when you line up four icons in one shot. When you use these in a match-up you will eliminate whole rows or columns of pieces making them drop down so you can match new ones.
