Make sure you scour each area thoroughly as there are plenty of places that you will be able to find extra resources.

Make sure you stock up on fuel as it is essential for almost everything. This includes construction, terraforming, manufacturing, and trading with merchants.

Do missions whenever possible, they will refresh often and more often than not will not be as difficult as trying to claim the next area on the map.

Keep an eye out for arrows that are underneath enemies as this indicates that they are about to move forward and if they manage to get close to you they will cause a lot of damage. Make sure you make dealing with these enemies a priority.

Make sure you keep an eye out for the Orange targets that pop-up occasionally during combat as these will enable you to do extra damage.

Don't worry about reloading in the middle of a fight, let the commander do everything automatically so you don't risk a jam.

Do not worry about tapping rewards when you earn them as they will be automatically collected after about 15 seconds.

If you have construction taking place set the time ahead on your device by however long it takes to finish. When you then return to the game the construction will be complete. This trick also works for recovering health after a battle. Unfortunately it does not work with the resource collection.
