Look to gain more Experience and coins by prioritising the gym equipment you buy. Buy the premium equipment but avoid the 'early buy' equipment which you can automatically unlock by leveling up your gym instructor.
Buy gym equipment whenever possible so you give your clients more choices. If your budget allows it and you have the quantity of clients buy two or three sets of the same equipment to avoid waiting.
If you are short of money and need to buy new gym equipment you can always sell any decorations you have to gain coins. Whenvever you level up you will get new decorations.
Resist the temptation of buying useless items like gym clothes, room paints and instructor heads as these are just for visuals and will not help you, just buy items that you need for missions.
To unlock new workouts for your gym instructor you need to train and level him/her up. You will need new workouts for missions and VIP clients.
