Observe all the buildings you start of with and make a note of their different functions and then use that information to your advantage. Knowing how to use the buildings is the key to playing this game successfully. For example some buildings can be used to earn money, others to train new troops while others have useful defensive capabilities.

A good strategy when building your army is to mix troops that specialize both in melee and ranged attacks as you will find having different types of troops fighting alongside each other will make them more effective.

Make sure you train as many troops as possible so you are always prepared for battle, the more trained troops you have in your army the harder it will be for you to be defeated.

Build new Drills and Beacons so you are potentially able to double the amount of Gold and Cloud you output which can then be used to get additional troops and upgrade buildings.

You can prevent your base from being attacked from other players when you are not playing by buying a shield each time you are done playing a session. Shields can last several days.

There is the possibility when you complete certain raids or build certain structures that you will earn an Achievement. When this happens return to the Stronghold in your base to collect your Rewards which will sometimes include Diamonds.

When you level-up more buildings, items, and types of troops will become unlocked. Make sure you study the level-up screen when it is shown to you so you can keep track of what you have available.

Buying new buildings is expensive so you may alternately want to improve your current ones by upgrading them. The option to upgrade a building will appear when you tap it.

After a few missions when you have become familiar with your troops and what they specialise in make sure that you use that information to place them in positions where they will be most effective.

Make upgrading and managing your troop and money storage a priority when you have earned enough money to so as this this is the foundation of a successful army.

Prior to sending your troops in to battle against another player make sure you take advantage of the time you are given to observe the playing field so you know what kind of troops will be more suitable for the task at hand as each mission will be different.

In the early stages of the game pirate ships will appear around your island waiting for you to attack them. Before you attack tap on the pirate ships to see what kind of enemies you will be facing and use this knowledge to make sure that you have the correct troops assembled for the task. Successully defeating the pirates will earn you rewards that can be used to improve your army.
