Do not worry about comrades who have fallen in battle as they will respawn after a period of time. You just need to focus on surviving and holding the fort until then.
Use the diamonds you earn during missions to buy scrolls as they will apply buffs and change your heroes' abilities. Diamonds can be equipped and purchased with real money from the 'Bug Hero' selection screen.
If you are stumped on how to take down an enemy take a look at the insect dictionary to see their stats and get advice on how to deal with them. The Insect dictionary can be found on the 'Bug Hero' selection menu which is located near the top of the screen and is shaped like a little book.
When you are low in health don't hesitate to eat your own food stocks to restore hit points. Cannibalizing on your own food is preferable to waiting for a friend to respawn.
It is important that early in the game when you have time before things start happening that you scout and explore each level for food parts as they are vital for victory.

Make sure you buy the special abilities as you need them as they can be a huge asset. Use the special abilities when necessary as once the it is depleted you will need to buy it again.
Always set up outposts when you are in a level that gives you the opportunity to do so as they allow you to generate coins, ease the burden of defending your main turrets and enable you to scout further ahead in relative safety.
Use the coins you generate from your base, outposts and defeating enemies into upgrding your bugs attacks and defenses to improve their abilities. Also make sure that after each stage when your bugs level up you remember to reapply any upgrades and equip them with any power-ups you have so they have the best chance of surviving in the next campaign.
As your bug heroes can act as a team or independently of each other it makes sense to leave a bug behind to guard your stash when you are going out scouting.
Make sure you have the best view for the task at hand by pressing the target reticle near the lower right-hand corner of the screen to switch them. Use the overhead view for tackling enemies on th battlefield and the long-range view to see what is coming off in the distance when you are close to home and defending your food stash.
