To have any chance of getting a good time you need to hit the Booster ability as often as you can.

When you complete a time-based event flawlessly and are still short you will need to use the Booster ability to shave those vital few seconds off your time. The performance and cooldown time of the Booster ability can be improved by upgrading it.

Make sure you focus on upgrading parts of your vehicle whenever possible, don't worry about the visual changes such as paint as they do not improve the performance of the vehicle.

The layouts of the tracks do not change so try to memorise unseen hazards and difficult spots for when you next attempt that track.
