Flight School: Drop Zone
Latest update by CMBF
on Sep 29th 2013
The second skydiving lesson is called Drop Zone -- and it consists of another skydiving session in which the target is a moving flatbed semi trailer.
To get gold on this you have to hit the target dead center. For silver you need to be within 7 meters and for bronze 20 meters. That means you can actually land on the ground next to the truck and still get silver. Just saying...
This is a lot more difficult than it sounds mostly because unlike the similar experience in GTA IV the landing spot in five will not try to match your speed and direction... You have to make the effort and line yourself up in order to hit, and that is best accomplished with a decent amount of glide distance.
The following tips will help you:
(1) When you jump from the plane don't move the dive forward -- let your body drop unaltered down while you orient your eyes on the target. Once you get to a height that seems like you can make a reasonably gentle and easy glide to the target, pull the chute.
(2) Remember not to use the LB + RB right away since doing so alters the flight system, preventing you from increasing the angle of attack greater than what you see on the screen with that fine landing aim deployed.
(3) After you jump if you blow the glide there is a chance that you can pull back on the chute and cirlce around for another go -- so do not just give up. Circle around and try again.
(4) You only have to hit the center, you don't have to land there and stick! Even if you fall off the trailer (as we did) you still get credit for the landing.
Going for Gold
This is another instance where the jump and glide are great fun -- so why not keep doing it until you get a gold medal?
