Introduction

God Of War is a game of strategy, logic, and combat. You play as Kratos, a Spartan warrior who once served as a general for Ares, the God of War. He feels regretful of his past and turns his attention to the other Gods for forgiveness, and is offered a journey of redemption. The Greek God Zeus had forbidden the Gods from waging war on one another, so it is up to you and Kratos to put an end to Ares and his reign of terror. Comparable to the Prince of Persia series.

Graphics

Considering the Fantasy setting, the game has very realistic in-game graphics. Enemies straight from mythology such as minotaurs, all taken from their mythological depictions and updated for the modern world of gaming. Movement is nearly flawless, and the entire game is very smooth visually, despite a gory and intense battle style. So much thought is put into Kratos and each of his foes that you may find yourself getting absorbed in gameplay. As for the cut scenes and videos, they are put together very well and very fluently.

Sound

The voices are very fitting for the characters, and very well synthesized with game play. The sound system in general adds much realism to the game, hearing each attack and hearing your enemies cry out when defeated. Everything from chilling battlecries during mahor boss battles to words of wisdom from the Gods, it is that much easier to find yourself absorbed in the game.

Gameplay

The combat system in God of War leaves very little to be desired. You have so many options for how to smite your foes even to begin with, and you get more along the way. Any good player can find their own style of play and how they choose to fight.
But there is much more to God of War than just combat. There are many areas in the game which require strategic thinking to clear a puzzle or dungeon. In many cases, you must be able to fight and think strategically at the exact same time. The game has an excellent learning curve. With three difficulty settings, a player can get used to the game on the easiest and progress forward. For the strong gamers or even the addicted ones, there is a special unlockable difficulty known as "God Mode", which will truly test even the best of gamers.

Lastability

While it takes a good deal of time to beat the game the first time through, each additional time you play it will be that much easier. The average gamer may find themself getting bored on their second or third play through. But this can usually be solved by putting the game away long enough to forget about it. Then, when you start over later, it's like playing the game for the first time all over again.

Overall

God of War is simply one of the best games I have ever played. Whether you are a fan of games that require you to think a lot and strategize, a gamer who likes to play a game where there is lots to do, a button mashing gamer who can be sucked in by gore, or a combination of the three, this game is always worth your time.
