Beginning the Campaign

you begin with the Main Menu, where you have two real options - New Game and Quick Play. Select New Game and you will start the main campaign of Gangstar Vegas. As the name suggests, the game is set in Las Vegas (or an alternate version of it roughly modelled on the real thing).

Down in the Fourth

you play as a man named Jason Malone who, once the game begins, you find yourself taking part in a MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) match. Here you are introduced to the basics in melee combat against your opponent. Use the V-Stick to walk forward, then tap the punch icon which appears in the bottom right hand corner of the screen to injure your opponent. A tap performs a light attack, while holding the punch icon gives a heavy attack. After you have done the light attack successfully, the game cuts to show frank Veliano, a Mafia Don Boss. He wants Jason to deliberately lose the bout, in the fourth round, but Jason accidentally knocks out his opponent.

frank and his cronies then chase you from the building, at which point you frantically phone Vera Montello, someone recommended to you by a friend to help you out in times of need. Frank crashes the car (he was using his phone while driving!), but thankfully Vera's bodyguard, Karen, arrives on the scene to take out the people about to kill you and save the day (for now at least).

Following this, you are required to defend Karen's vehicle from its pursuers. Touch and move your finger on the screen to change the camera angle, then tap on an enemy vehicle to lock onto it. You should see a light blue square appear around it to confirm that this has been successful. Then, tap the crosshair icon in the bottom right corner (where the fist icon is for melee attacks) to fire a shot. Hold it down for continuous fire.

After you have dealt with around half a dozen pursuing vehicles, you will come upon a roadblock. Karen shouts at you to shoot it but you don't actually have to do anything until she stops the car. At that point, you will be given a RPG and allowed to fire at the vehicles blocking the road.

NOTE: you don't always have to tap to lock-on. The game will try to auto-select the best target for you to save you the effort.

Once you're past the road block, you will have a helicopter to face. This is quite tricky to aim at and even get within range of, but if you hold down the fire icon then you should be able to take it out before it can destroy your vehicle. After that, there will be a few more pursuers, but Karen opts instead to take the drastic option of driving off the cliff.
