I'm trying to get Luigi and I already tried the two second thing but I can't fight him at the end. Is there a certain difficulty level or number of lives I have to put?

No. You're doing something wrong then.

That's how it should look. It doesn't matter what the other numbers are, just as the seconds slot is a two, you might be doing the milaseconds insted.
Are you sure you're doing this on Mushroom Kingdom (Stage 1) too?
To get Luigi - just do Adventure Mode (at any Difficulty with any number of Lives) and finish the first Stage, Mushroom Kingdom, when the clock's seconds (not minutes or milliseconds) end in a 2 like 3:02:75.
If you still can't get that to work, well - you can always play 800 Melee VS. Matches, but I suggest doing Adventure Mode - once you beat him, he'll be yours to use - good luck!
The seconds place has to be a two. Make sure your at stage one too.
