Question for Super Smash Bros. Melee

Hi there I'm just new to this game but when you have to unlock people after doing a number of melee matches do you have to do them straight off so like I can't save it and I have to keep going. I did that and got dr.mario but I had 400 kills with link and now I can't unlock anyone please reply soon thank you Smile

No, you can save and continue other day if you want.
They will appear randomly, after a certain number of matches.

I'm pretty sure you need a lot more kills than 400. But some people, you need to play matches instead of kills. With Mewtwo, you need to play 20 hours (not all at the same time, total). Other characters are only unlockable in event mode.....I think.
