All chao are asexual, or the same gender, and can breed with any chao.
A normal, or neutral chao will have just a ball above his head.
A hero chao will have a halo above his head.
A dark chao will have a spiky ball above his head.
Their ball does not change until after they evolve the first time.
They are bisexual.

Asexual is when there is one parent.
Well there isn't a difference nor is there a gender. Chaos just mate with each other if they like each other.
