Question for Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness

You know when you get the lever in the Cipher Key Lair? What happens when you turn it so it goes lower? I know that if you turn it up then the Lair blows up, but what happens if you turn it down?

I'm curious, please answer!

To ~ Spyro Madgirl ~,
After you defeat the scientist in front of the generator and he goes away, when you insert the system lever and select Lower, it says '______' used the SYSTEM LEVER to lower the CONTROL MACHINE's voltage...But nothing happened'!
Then you have to press a again and raise the voltage, otherwise you won't complete the mission.

P.S. I also did not know what happened when you 'lower' the voltage, so I think that this was informative for the two of us.
