Nope! No contests, for one thing since Shadow Rush can't be used in them.

You can enter pyrite colluseum when duking comes and talkes to you after you get the gear he will tell you you have to win those battles in the colleseum then go talk to the ladie at the pyrite colluesum and you enter and then you start I think theres four battles.
