Actually, Mario's star is in the Observatory. When you enter, you should see a telescope. Walk up to it and press A. Then, pull away. One of the room's walls should have dissapeared. Suck in one of the shooting stars, and let go of it while facing the moon. A pathway should appear. Follow the path to Mario's star.
Yeah - like luiginumberone said - Mario's Star IS in the Observatory.
Go to that room - look through the telescope - exit the telescope - then a wall will go away - go suck up a falling star and shoot it at the moon so that the star hits the moon!
Then a pathway will open up and it will lead you to Mario's Star!!!!!
You have to walk up to the telescope and look into it. Then these puff ball things will appear. You have to suck them up and try to shoot them at the moon. Once you hit it, the star will appear.
