Question for Harvest Moon: Magical Melody

I heard about a cheat that instead of buying a chicken just buy the egg. Then you get a chicken. My question is how does it hatch.

First put your egg in the incubator in your chicken coop and wait a few days then you'll have a little chicken.

When you get a chicken coop then put it in the incubator (the thing with the nest on the right side of the coop) and the egg should eventually hatch.
