Simply just give him items every day just like you do to other people in the town . He likes item's from your farm milk,eggs,ect.
What I did was giving him random items like things from the mines...milk....eggs he really like golden... And give him fish too. Hope this helps you.
Actually I've tried giving him fish...he'll only take specific kinds of fish. I can't remember which ones though...but if you go inside his hut while he is there he'll give you a recipe for fish stew (turnip, carrot, and fish. He really likes homemade meals.
