Data is used to power up chips and also to permanently increase your digimon's parameters, which are their stats. I would suggest saving your data until you have chips with the "Y" looking symbol after it because these are the most powerful chips you can get and will be the most useful to power up. Chips are put on mods on weapons and armor. Mods are random occurrences on weapons and armor.
