Ike - Joins automatically in Prologue (default character).

Oscar - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 1.

Boyd - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 1.

Titania - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 1.

Rhys - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 2.

Shinon - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 3, leaves after Chapter 7. To re-recruit him in Chapter 18, you must speak to him with Rolf and AFTER you have done so defeat him with Ike. He will rejoin after the battle. If you defeat him with Ike before you talk to him with Rolf, or defeat him with any other character he will actually die instead of retreat.

Gatrie - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 3, leaves after Chapter 7.

Soren - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 4.

Mia - Talk to her with Ike in Chapter 7.

Ilyana - Talk to her with Ike in Chapter 8.

Rolf - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 9.

Mist - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 9.

Marcia - Talk to her with Ike in Chapter 3, then let her speak to Ike in Chapter 9.

Lethe - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 10 if she survived Chapter 9.

Mordecai - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 10 if he survived Chapter 9.

Volke - Accept his help at the start of Chapter 10, then accept his help again after Chapter 10.

Kieran - Talk to him with Oscar in Chapter 10 and order him to Escape.

Brom - Talk to him with Ike in Chapter 10 and order him to Escape.

Nephenee - Talk to her with Ike in Chapter 10 and order her to Escape.

Zihark - Talk to him with Lethe or Mordecai in Chapter 11.

Sothe - Read the Info conversation at the start of Chapter 12 and choose to aid him.

Jill - Don't kill her in Chapter 11 (your best bet is to stay out of her range) and let her speak to Ike in Chapter 12.

Astrid - Talk to her with Ike in Chapter 13.

Gatrie (re-recruit) - Talk to him with Astrid in Chapter 13.

Makalov - Talk to him with Marcia in Chapter 14.

Tormod - Read the Info conversation at the start of Chapter 16.

Muarim - Read the Info conversation at the start of Chapter 16.

Devdan - Talk to him with Soren, Rolf, Mist, Sothe or Tormod.

Reyson - Read the Info conversation at the start of Chapter 17 and accept his help at the start of Chapter 18.

Janaff - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 18.

Ulki - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 18.

Tanith - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 18.

Volke - After he reveals his true identity and changes class into an Assassin after Chapter 19, accept his help again or he will leave.

Calill - Read the Info conversation at the start of Chapter 20 and accept her request.

Tauroneo - Talk to him with Ike, Mist, Sothe or Tormod.

Ranulf - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 23.

Haar - Talk to him with Jill in Chapter 23.

Lucia - Joins automatically after Turn 2 during Chapter 24.

Bastian - Joins automatically after Turn 2 during Chapter 24.

Geoffrey - Joins automatically after Chapter 24.

Largo - Read the Info conversation at the start of Chapter 25 and accept his request.

Elincia - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 26.

Ena - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 28 if the Black Knight is NOT killed in Chapter 27.

Nasir - Joins automatically at the start of Chapter 28 IF the Black Knight is killed in Chapter 27.

Tibarn - Call Tibarn into the battle in Endgame.

Naesala - Call Naesala into the battle in Endgame.

Giffca - Call Giffca into the battle in Endgame.

Trial Map characters:

Oliver - Beat the game three times.

Shiharam - Beat the game five times.

Petrine - Beat the game seven times.

Bryce - Beat the game ten times.

Ashnard - Beat the game fifteen times.

Greil - Beat the game twenty times without losing any characters on the Difficult difficulty (I'm not entirely sure this is true).
