Conclusion =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 2 Introduction =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Well, this is my second guide for Pokemon. This is actually a pretty long guide, so if you want just go to find, and type in sec. and then the section you want to go to. I mainly wrote this for new players to the game, but I still think this can help most other people too, because you can never have too much help with a team. In this guide, you will learn the easiest way to catch Pokemon, figure out the best movesets for your Pokemon, how to put together a great team, figure out what Pokemon to battle with and which ones to put in a contest, and much, much more! Now, let's get started with the guide! =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 3 Catching Pokemon =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ This is probably one of the most important sections, because what would be Pokemon, without a Pokemon team? Anyways, there are a few things to know about, before you just take your level 100 Pokemon, and try to lower a level 7 Pokemon's HP down. Here are a few tips: 1. Never make your Pokemon more than 15 levels higher than the Pokemon you're trying to catch. 2. Don't use your Master Ball on a weak, low level Pokemon. 3. Always save before encountering a legendary Pokemon. 4. Try using a Dive Ball on underwater Pokemon, a Timer Ball, when the battles are long, etc. 5. Smeargles help catch Pokemon. Make it learn False Swipe, Spore, and Mean Look, to catch the Pokemon easily. 6. (If you're playing Gold, Silver, or any old versions) Always check to make sure the PC box is empty, or not close to being full. 7. When your Pokemon are hurt, go to a Pokemon Center. It doesn't help if your Pokemon has less than 20 HP, and you run into a super rare Pokemon, and your Pokemon faints. 8. Double check your items, Pokemon, and make sure you're on the right route. 9. When battling a legendary Pokemon, don't use a move that would be super effective. 10. When searching for a Pokemon use Sweet Scent. 11. Always match the types so the Pokemon you're trying to catch can't land a super effective hit on you. 12. To stall battles sometimes use a Shedinja, but check to make sure the opponent can't hit you. 13. When you need to make a Pokemon like you, for happiness, use a Luxury Ball. 14. You can trade Pokemon and trade back, to get the Pokemon in your Pokedex. Sometimes this is easier. 15. When using a level 100 Pokemon, make sure it knows False Swipe, or any other move that won't make the Pokemon faint. 16. Pressing certain buttons when you throw the Pokeball, doesn't work. You just need to work to catch them. I hope this tips help, I will try to update these as much as I can, so that you will be able to catch Pokemon easier. =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 3.1 Pokeballs =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Here's another important section. Pokeballs are just as important as the Pokemon, because if you don't have Pokeballs, you can't have Pokemon. Here's a list of all the kinds of Pokeballs, and where to get them. Type of Pokeball|_|Where to buy it|_|How much it costs|_|Other info ------------------------------------------------------------------- Pokeball|_|Pretty much at every Pokemart|_|$200|_|This is a standard Pokeball, it has a normal chance of a Pokemon. Great Ball|_|Mauville, Petalburg, Verdanturf, Fallabor, Slateport, Lavaridge, Fortree, and Lilycove|_|$600|_|A little better than a Pokeball, still sucks though, has a one and a half chance more than a Pokeball to catch a Pokemon. Ultra Ball|_|Lilycove, Mossdeep, Sootopolis, and Ever Grande|_|$1200|_|This is probably the best, buyable, Pokeball that you can get. You can catch Pokemon two times better than a Pokeball with this. Safari Ball|_|Only in the Safari Zone|_|$500 for 30! Nice!|_|You can only get this Pokeball in the Safari Zone, but it works just as good as a Great Ball, and at 30 for $500 ($18000, for 30 Great Balls!) that's a pretty good deal. See, the Safari Zone isn't a rip off. Dive Ball|_|Mossdeep|_|$1000|_|If you use this on a Pokemon that's underwater, you can catch the Pokemon three and a half times better than a regular Pokeball. Net Ball|_|Mossdeep|_|$1000|_|If you use it on a Bug or Water type Pokemon, it works even better than an Ultra Ball! That's pretty good, if I don't say so myself. Nest Ball|_|Verdanturf|_|$1000|_|When you use it on a low level Pokemon, it works really good. The lower the level, the better it is. Repeat Ball|_|Rustboro|_|$1000|_|If you already caught the Pokemon, it works three times better than a Pokeball. Premium Ball|_|If you buy 10 Pokeballs, you get one of these|_|$2000|_|Works just like a Pokeball, so if you buy 10 Pokeballs, you get 11, ok? Luxury Ball|_|You get one when you win a Pokemon Contest|_|$0|_|Works just like a Pokeball, too bad. You should get more for winning a Contest. Master Ball|_|In the enemy hideout|_|$0|_|This Pokeball works 100% of the time, you only get one though, unless if you cheat. But you can win one at the Lilycove lottery. =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 3.2 Status Problems =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ When trying to catch a Pokemon, you want to hit the Pokemon with a move that will give it a status problem. If you don't know what they are, read below. NOTE: All of them, except the last 4, can be healed with a Full Heal, Full Restore, Heal Powder, Lava Cookie, or berries, I'm just listing the items, that are made specifically for that problem, because most of them are about $800 cheaper than the items I just listed. Status Problem|_|What it does|_|How to heal it ---------------------------------------------- Burn|_|Every turn your Pokemon loses a bit of HP|_|Use a Burn Heal to heal it. Poison|_|On every turn your Pokemon loses some HP, but when Toxic was used, it gets worse every turn. Your Pokemon also loses 1 HP for every 4 steps out of battle.|_|Use an Antidote to heal it. Paralyze|_|Your Pokemon won't attack 50% of the time|_|Heal it with a Paralyz Heal. Freeze|_|Your Pokemon can't attack when it is Frozen, until it thaws|_|Use an Ice Heal, or use a Fire move on it. Sleep|_|Your Pokemon will sleep for 2-5 turns, and can't attack|_|Use an Awakening to heal it. These last four aren't real Status Problems, but I'm listing them, because some people consider them Status Problems, and I also think that you should know about them, because it helps to know. Confuse|_|Your Pokemon will be confused, and sometimes attack itself|_|Use a Yellow Flute, or just switch it out of battle. Curse|_|Every turn your Pokemon will lose a little HP|_|Just switch it out of battle, but most likely your opponent will have used Mean Look. Attraction|_|Your Pokemon will be in love with the opponent. Yay! Babies! Umm. Anyways, it will sometimes not attack, because it's in love.|_| Use a Red Flute, or switch it out. Faint|_|Your Pokemon has "died" when it faints. It will not be able to go into battle, and you can't use Potions or anything on it.|_|Go to a Pokemon Center, or use a Revive or Max Revive on it. =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 3.3 Items =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ This is just a little section on all the items you can use to help you in battle. I think most of them are important when in a battle, and you want to win, but, they're still very, very useful. Oh, and sorry that I don't have where they are, and how much they cost, maybe I'll do that later, but I'm just kind of lazy right now. Sorry. Note that some of these items will need to be traded from Emerald, Fire Red, or Leaf Green. Antidote: Heals your Pokemon from Poison. Awakening: Heals your Pokemon from Sleep. Burn Heal: Heals your Pokemon from a Burn. Ice Heal: Heals your Pokemon from being Frozen. Paralyz Heal: Heals your Pokemon from being Paralyzed. Blue Flute: Heals your Pokemon from Sleep. Full Heal: Heals any Status Problem. Full Restore: Heals all HP and Status Problems. Heal Powder: Heals any Status Problem. It's Bitter, but cheaper than a Full Heal. Lava Cookie: Heals any Status Problem. Red Flute: Snaps a Pokemon out of Attraction. Revival Herb: Revives a fainted Pokemon, but Bitter. Revive: Revives a fainted Pokemon, with half HP. Yellow Flute: Snaps a Pokemon out of Confusion. Berry Juice: Heals 20 HP. Energy Root: Heals 200 HP, but Bitter. Energy Powder: Heals 50 HP, but Bitter. Fresh Water: Heals 50 HP. Hyper Potion: Heals 200 HP. Lemonade: Heals 80 HP. Moo Moo Milk: Heals 100 HP. Potion: Heals 20 HP. Soda Pop: Heals 60 HP. Super Potion: Heals 50 HP. Elixer: Brings all PP up by 10. Ether: Brings PP up 10 for one move. Max Elixer: Brings all PP all the way up. Max Ether: Brings the PP of one move all the way up. =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 5 Starting a Team =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Now that you know how to catch Pokemon, use items, and you learned about Status Problems, you're ready to start a team. First, you need to plan ahead, and figure out which Pokemon you're going to get. If you're just starting the game, great, you'll have an easy time picking all your Pokemon, and start a team before you even begin! But if you already started, it may be more difficult. The first step is to choose the types. You want to choose the types that will help you the most, such as a Water type. A Water Pokemon can beat Fire types, which are pretty common to have. Choose 6 of these listed below:(I have a little spot to put a check next to them, if you print this out, and you can choose the ones you want) _ |_|Water _ |_|Fire _ |_|Grass _ |_|Ice _ |_|Psychic _ |_|Electric _ |_|Dragon _ |_|Dark _ |_|Steel _ |_|Rock _ |_|Poison _ |_|Normal _ |_|Ground _ |_|Ghost _ |_|Flying _ |_|Fighting _ |_|Bug Before you choose though, I'd like to tell you the most popular types that people use. Water, Fire, Psychic, Flying, Dark, Electric, Dragon, and Ground. So you need to make a team that can beat all these types. Also remember, that there are some half types too, so you can use half types, and have 12 different types, in one team. Now, you can pick your types.................What? Are you stuck? Well, that's why I'm here, to help. First, let's get out the types that you NEED. You need, Flying, Water, Ground, Grass, Dark, and Ice. Well, Dark and Ice are just what you should have in your team. If you noticed, I didn't put Electric, one of the most popular types. That's because an Electric Pokemon can be easily beaten, and Grass beats Water, and Ice beats flying, so you don't need an Electric Pokemon. So, how about we pick Fire, Dragon, Steel and Psychic Pokemon too. Now, let's choose the Pokemon. Let's list all the types we have: Flying Water Ground Grass Dark Ice Fire Dragon Psychic Steel OK, now we combine them. We can combine Fire and Flying, and you could use Charizard or Moltres, some very strong Pokemon. Now we have Water, Ground, Grass, Dark, Ice, Dragon, Psychic, and Steel left. How about we combine Steel and Psychic. That gives us the Pokemon Metagross, another powerful Pokemon. Now, how about we combine Water and Ground, and we get the awesome Pokemon, Swampert (If you didn't start with Swampert, then that's OK. This is just an example team, you don't have to use this exact team). OK, so now we have these types left: Grass, Dark, Ice, and Dragon, and we can have 3 more Pokemon. So, we could put two types together and have two pure types, or put them all together, and get another two Pokemon. Let's just see if we can put any of them together. Umm.. There aren't any good Pokemon that I know of, if we did that. So we're going to add a type. Rock. Now we can get a Pokemon That's part Rock, and Dark. Any some to mind? Any? Come on, any Pokemon at all? I'll give you a hint, it starts with a Tyra and ends in nitar....... Yes! Finally! Tyranitar! The super powerful Pokemon from Gold and Silver! Now, we need two more Pokemon. How about we drop the Ice type, we can teach Swampert Ice Beam, and we need a Grass type, and a Dragon type. How about Dragonite for Dragon, or Rayquaza, but I prefer Dragonite. Then, we just look up powerful grass type Pokemon, on the internet...How about, Meganium? OK, another good Pokemon, it isn't a super powerful Pokemon, but hey, it is really powerful. Now, we have our team: Charizard Metagross Swampert Tyranitar Dragonite Meganium Now, before we get into moves and everything, some people tell you to have different kinds of Pokemon. These are Sweepers, Tanks, and Annoyers. I personally don't like to use these kinds of Pokemon, other than Sweepers, but it's your opinion, and I'll still explain. A Sweeper is a Pokemon that has all powerful moves, and pretty much nothing else. They usually have moves that go well with what's stronger, Special Attack, or Attack, and if they don't, then the person who trains them doesn't know about the difference between Special Attack and Attack. Now, if you don't know the difference, then you're screwed! Never to play Pokemon again! Mwahahahaha! No, just kidding. Fortunately for you, I know the difference, so you're not screwed. If I didn't know, well... Let's just not think about it. The difference is,the types for the moves. If your Pokemon's Special Attack is higher, thenFire, Water, Electric, Psychic, Dark, Ice, Dragon, and Grass type attacks are stronger. But if your Attack is stronger, then Ghost, Poison, Steel, Flying,Ground, Rock, Bug, Fighting, and Normal type moves are stronger. I think that most people's Pokemon have stronger Special Attack, because the better moves are in that category. Now that you know about Sweepers, let's get an example Pokemon out. How about a Mewtwo, with a Special Attack of 366. Anyways, it knows Psychic, Thunder, Blizzard, and Solarbeam. Just pretend that Thunder and Blizzard hit 100% of the time, just for now. So this is a pretty powerful Sweeper, don't you think? Now let's try a Sweeper with a high Attack. How about a Donphan, with an Attack of 372, and it knows Earthquake, Double Edge, Iron Tail, and Ghost type Hidden Power. Pretty good, huh? These kinds of Pokemon, are the most popular kinds to use, because it's easy to win with them, and they are easy to use. Let's go on to the next kind now. The next kind, is a Tank. I'm sure if you were given only the name, and you had to tell someone what it does, you'd probably say it's good in defense, right? Yes, the name does give it away, but it isn't much of a secret. Tanks are, in my opinion, the hardest of the three kinds to train. The have awesome defense, and they are used to beat a Sweeper. The Tanks can stall long enough to defeat a Sweeper. It isn't very easy though, because a Sweeper will try to defeat your Pokemon, and your Pokemon probably isn't very strong, and wouldn't be able to defeat a Sweeper in one move. But luckily, Sweepers usually have really bad Defense. So what you have to do, is just keep attacking, because the Sweeper won't be able to defeat your Tank. I ,personally, have never used a Tank, ever, and I don't know what moves are the best, but I'm thinking something like using a Shuckle, the best Pokemon in Defense, and teaching it Toxic, Earthquake, if it has a higher Attack, just like a Sweeper, except it doesn't have much of an attack, so that sucks, Sandstorm, and Curse. That looks pretty good, although I'm not sure about having Earthquake so, um, yeah. OK, I'm gonna go to the next kind, because this is all the little info I know about Tanks. This is my favorite one, Annoyers. Annoyers don't have the attack that Sweepers have, and they don't have the defense that Tanks have, so they are used just to annoy your opponent. They usually don't have any attacks that would actually make a Pokemon faint right away, but they will do it slow, and painfull. Mwahahah! So, let's get a good Pokemon for an Annoyer. How about Ludicolo, becuase that's my favorite Annoyer that I have. OK, here are the moves that I think are the best ones: Rain Dance (because if it has Rain Dish, or Swift Swim, it makes it really good), Toxic, Dive, and Double Team. Also make it hold Leftovers too. These Pokemon are really fun to have, and use. Alright, now it's time for the moves. Yay!!! OK, so if you read about the Sweepers, then you know about the moves, but I'll list some moves for the Pokemon I listed before. Charizard-Fly, Flamethrower, Earthquake(if it can't learn Earthquake then Dig), and Seismic Toss Metagross-Psychic, Meteor Mash, Iron Defense, and Rest(This is sort of an Tank and a Sweeper, because it has alot of defense, and attack) Swampert-Earthquake, Surf, Ice Beam, and Hidden Power, or Return Tyranitar-Rock Slide, Crunch, Earthquake, and Hidden Power Dragonite-Dragon Claw, Ice Beam, Wing Attack, and Outrage Meganium-Leech Seed, Slam, Razor Leaf, and a healing move Also note, that you should never, have more than one type of move on a Pokemon. So don't have a Wailord with all 4 moves Water type. Now finally, we'll talk about items. When you make a Pokemon hold an item, don't use a hold item that powers up a certain type, because it would only power up one move, which kind of sucks. I suggest that for items you use berries, like all the time. You can make a Pokemon know Rest, and give it a Chesto Berry, and it will wake the Pokemon up immediately. Here, I'll name all the berries for you: 1. Cheri Other Info: Heals Paralysis 2. Chesto Other Info: Awakens a Pokemon 3. Pecha Other Info: Heals Poisoning 4. Rawst Other Info: Heals a Burn 5. Well, I think that's all for this section. =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 5 Extra =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 5.1 Battle or Contest? =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ How do you know if you should put a Pokemon in a battle, or put it in a contest? Well, just look at the moves. If the moves are powerful moves, that could give you a 1 Hit KO, then it's for a battle, but if most of the moves have more than 4 stars for one type of contest, then it should be in a contest. When I update this, I'll add more, but for now, this is all I have. Be ready, because I will list tips for every contest, and perfect Pokemon, with perfect movesets, for each contest. =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 6 Contact Info =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ My email is [email protected] I dont check it everyday though, so if youre expecting me to respond, it may not be for a few weeks. I also have a few things you will need to follow if you do email me. 1. Title it either 'Pokemon' or 'Pokemon Ruby'. Or anything that I will know means Pokemon. 2. Spell correctly. I'm not asking you to use correct punctuation or anything, just spelling. 3. Don't send anything stupid that would waste my time reading it. 4. If you have anything that you want me to put in the guide, make sure to include your name, so I can put it in the guide. 5. You can ask me any questions that you may have. 6. You can ask to host this on your site, but you have to ask first! 7. You can ask to use anything from this guide, in yours, but you need to give me credit, and ask me first! Please, feel free to email me about anything. I don't bite! =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ Sec. 7 Conclusion =+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+==+ That's everything, for now, that I have about Creating a team. This is my longest guide I've ever written (took 6 hours, which isn't really that long, considering some guides I'm still writing, which have taken months and I'm still not even close to being done) I hope you enjoyed this guide, and you're looking forward to my many other guides that I'm hoping to post.
