Sometimes it depends on how many item in your you have cause you can only have a certain amount of objects in your house if you get more some of your items will disappear so you can place them or it will not let place them and items will not disappear.

This happens to me too, except it is that you cannot turn the sink in another direction. Check the Zen Meter at the bottom of the screen and make sure that where you want to place the sink, the tiling is green/yellowy, not red.
