How do I pass the stone seal in marsh cave.

You first need to have found the water spirit (oh, I can't remember it's name) you need to go somewhere else to battle it. Instead of trying to go into marsh cave, head north from there and through a swampy bit, and then you will come to a different cave, in this cave is a two headed snake thing that you have to beat and you free the water spirit... Then you have to revive it in blue water, which is nearby.
This may be a little late now, but you need to switch to the BOW before using Salamand's magic on the seal. This will make a lily pad pop up. Took me a while to figure this out since no forum or walkthrough was clear about it.
Switch to bow.
