You must go up to ADD NEW GAME press b, then add the title for which code you are using, type in the master code and when you are done, hit select after hitting start to add the master code. Then, you must select ADD NEW CHEAT and type in the cheat code. These are instructions for GBA SP gameshark. One thing that I found was that things like items mod. And wild Pokemon modifier worked better and easier using the gameshark's built in codes.
