How or where do you find a different colored pokemon. I've looked everywhere..

If you mean shiny pokemon then there's no way to increase the chance of you finding one except with cheatingcodedevices lke AR.

These pokemon are called shiny pokemon they are very rare and will pop up any time, like I found a gold Absol just the other day.

I say the best starter pokemon is Torchic because I beat the game without it evolving.

Walking around in grass/caves, surfing, smashing rocks and fishing are just some of the ways you can capture shiny pokemon. In fact, shinys can be found in any place you encounter pokemon (they can even be used by trainers; Iv'e fought one who used a shiny). Just remember that they are exceedingly rare, so it isn't usually worth searching for them.
What anybody thinks is the best starter is determined by their own feelings and thoughts, so their advice will be irrelevant to you. Just choose whichever one you want and build around it.

The Shiny Pokemon are very very rare, and they will be difficult to find. Just be patient and it can happen.
