You have to beat raquazza first than your second pokemons will teach you how to make a team and how to evolve

When going to a friend area...aproach someone and pick him as your leader

Once you beat Rayquaza you can select team pick your partner and press standy.

Once you have beaten rayquaza and open luminous cave then go to your friends and say visit. Once there talk to the other Pokemon which was on your team and tell them to 'stand by'. You should be on you own

If you questioning about how roam around alone, first you have to finish the story. After that lombre is talking about evolution. Then after that, go to your team base and find the Medicham. She will talks about Lombre drawning at sea. Then lombre talks about HM Dive. Go to wish cash to claim it. Then go to adventure. This time, your partner ask to give a chance the other team to be a leader and a partner, then you will go alone after that.
