If you defeat a legendary Pokemon, Mew in my case, and it doesn't ask to join your team, is it possible to try to recruit it again? I went to the Bured Relic, got stuck in a Monster House with Mew in it, and accidentaly defeated Mew. It didn't join my team, so can I save my game and try again, or do I have to restart and loose all the items I brought to the dungeon (stupid dungeon's quiksave...)?

No all you have to do is keep going back and fighting Mew until he asks to join your team he will always be there time and time over again it's also the same with all the other legendaries
Well you can't save your game when you are in a dungeon but you can just finish it and then come back again and try to recruit mew
