Go back and talk to the sailor and he will take you back to Vermillion.
PS. A little advice, there are NOT 3 Islands, there are 9, when you get back to Kanto catch 60 Pokemon and talk to Proffeser Oak and he will give you a tciekt to islands 4-7, when your done with that get an e-reader and scan this special card and you will have access to islands 8-9...Good luck!
