Altering Cave does not have a purpose, it's basically only there to catch Pokemon inside, all I ever ran into in there was Zubat anyway. It's just a useless cave.

You need a e-reader and some e-cards
Ypu can catch some Pokemon like mareep and snubull

For special events to allow you to transform it into a different cave, WITHOUT all those annoying Zubats.

The purpose of it is basically to catch other pokemon. There aren't just Zubats in that cave, after you use the Mystery Gift, you can find different Pokemon there such as Smeargle.
