HM's = Hidden Machines. They teach your monsters important moves. They can only be deleted by the Move Deleter.

HM01 Cut- go onto the S.S. Anne and talk to the captain. He will give it to you.
(You must have at least 2 badges).
HM02 Fly- due west of Celadon City into the route. Use Cut on a tree and go
through the house thing. Enter the house (a real one) and talk to the girl. She
will give it to you. (You must have at least 3/4 badges).
HM03 Surf- Travel through the Safari Zone in Fuschia City and go to the end. Talk
to this guy in the final house and he will give it to you. (You must have at least
4/5 badges).
HM04 Strength- While traveling through the Safari Zone, you might've picked up
an item called "Golden Teeth" or something (it's in the area where the final
house is). Give it to the Warden and he will give it to you. (Teach it to a
Pokemon and use Strength on the rock in the house. It's a free rare candy!)
(You must have at least 4/5 badges).
HM05 Flash- By catching at least 10 pokemon, go into Diglett's Cave and go
through it. You're by Pewter City! Anyway, go south using Cut on any tree
you see. Go into a big building and you should see an aide of Prof. Oak. Talk
to him and he will give it to you. (You must have at least 3 badges).
HM06 Rock Smash- Beyond Island 1 and before Mt. Ember, you should uncover
this "spa". Talk to the old man and he will give it to you. (You must have at
least 7/8 badges).
HM07 Waterfall- In one of your missions, in Ice Cave (on Island 4), you should
find it. If you didn't, you haven't done it correctly. You HAVE to retrieve it,
otherwise you can't finish your mission. (You MUST have all 8 badges, beaten
E4, and caught 60 pokemon. You must also have the Rainbow Pass that Celio
gave you)
