There is something like that in every game except the original Red/Blue. Also, the elderly person in the house always says the same thing: 'I may not look like much now, but when I was younger... I flew everywhere, challenging TRAINERS wherever I found them. Now, my only source of enjoyment is reminiscing about the past while watching battles.' And things like that. As for the boxes/trees, you can't get past them. I think GameFreak puts them there to bug the heck out of gamers. I don't know about you, but it works on me!
