Choose your Starter as Charamander if you want to go offensive. Choose Squirtle for defensive maneuvers.

At Brock's Gym, catch a Mankey. Level your Charamander to level 13 and learn Metal Claw. Squirtle should know a Water move by now (via level 8)
You should be close or have evolved your Starter into the next evolution by the time you beat him.

Before you continue your adventure, get a Pikachu, Weedle, and Catterpie in the Virdian Forest. Train them, and Evolve Weedle into a Beedrill (3rd stage) as well as Catterpie into Butterfree, (3rd stage) which is at level 10 for both of them. Go to Misty's Arena. A Mankey, Pikachu, Butterfree, Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume, and Beedrill should be your Pokemon OTHER THAN your Starter Pokemon. Charmeleons will have to be shields. If they survive, use Metal Claw or Mega Kick/Mega Punch if you went to the training duo to the right of the exit of the cave. Mankey should go nutz and do everything he has. Wartortles should be a wall and use stat-lowering moves, like Tail Whip. Pikachu should Thundershock all who dare try to kill him. Butterfree and Beedrill should go nutz as well. Beedrill should try to poison the opponent of your Beedrill could ATM. The plants should absorb the crap out of them.

At Lt. Surge's Stage, try it with a Pikachu, Mankey, Beedrill, Oddish/Gloom/Vileplume, and a Geodude. Pikachu should be a wall, and should paralyze the opponent, then switch. The Grass-Type should be a sort of wall and inflict statuses. Mankey should go nutz again. Beedrill should go nutz, as well as poisoning the other pokemon. Be careful of paralyzation. Geodude is immune to Electric attacks, and double resistant to Normal attacks. He's the bomb, although he might have sucky moves ATM. Charmeleon should go all-out. Wartortle should be a last resort.

At Erika's Garden, you should have by now a Mankey/Primeape, Beedrill, Butterfree, and a Pidgeotto, or/plus a Spearow. The monkey Pokemon should go haywire (again) while the bugs should use Poison, Bug, and Flying-Type moves. Pidgeotto and/or Spearow should gang up on them plants andpeck or gust or use some sort of Flying-Type move. Charmeleon should be chanting, "BURN! BURN! BURN!" and the plants should say, "It burns, IT BURNS!" Wartortle is a wall. :D

At the Dojo, bring a Mankey/Primeape, a few birdies, Beedrill, and Butterfree. The apes should once again go kookoo, and the birds (up to 2 of them) should strategically use Flying-Type moves. Beedrill is part Poison, and Poison is resistant to Fighting-Type moves. Butterfree is part Flying, and...you should know by now. Your Charmeleon/Wartortle? Use it to your purpose. Then go to the kids next door.

Come in with a Butterfree, Pikachu, Gloom/Vileplume, Geodude/Graveler, and a bird. Pikachu, Geodude, Gloom, the bird, and Charmeleon/Wartortle should be reckless, MERCILESS! Butterfree should focus on bugggg attacks. Finish! Go on to the city left, and make sure to have a Bike.

I'm tired now. I'll finish the rest tomorrow. See ya!
